Ricardo grew up in Mexico City where he completed the Bachelor and Master programs in Physics at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico. He then moved to New Zealand to undertake his PhD at the University of Auckland under the supervision of Prof. Howard Carmichael. Ricardo studied elementary processes in light-matter interaction which lead to work on dissipative quantum phase transitions, structured light, and the description of novel systems using quantum trajectory theory. This has left him with a growing interest on quantum optics of open systems and overall control of quantum systems, among other things. He joins our group to further explore emerging phenomena of many-body open systems in quantum optics.
